Active noise reduction

The Bose A20 Aviation Headset offers active noise reduction that is up to 30% more efficient than competing headsets, and it truly shows after long hours of use. While this active noise reduction does require 2 AA batteries to run, the positive effects provided by the electronics are well worth extra effort of replacing the batteries every now and again. They don’t even need replacement very often. The headset offers a smart shut-off feature that turns off the electronics when they are not in use. This lets the battery life of the AA batteries much, much longer than they otherwise would be. In our testing, the batteries for this headset last about 45 hours or more during normal usage thanks to the smart shut-off system.

Comfort like no other

Bose A20 Complete Set

With its hinged headband, this headset offers great comfort. A unique design lets the headset stay on your head while using 30% less clamping power than other aviation headsets. After some testing on the field, we found the comfort benefits of this headset to be insane. The clamping force isn’t so strong that it gives you a headache after long hours of use, but it is just strong enough to keep the headset on your head securely. It has the proper leverage to stay on your head without squeezing it to death.

The Bose A20 headset also excels in the area of padding. The padding for the top of the head is thick and comfortable. It doesn’t apply too much pressure against the head. Padding around the ear cups is just as thick, but offers a little more give to ensure a good seal around the ear. In use, these headphones are exceedingly comfortable to use. It is easy to see how some A20 headset users forget they are even wearing it after extended use.

Effortless communication

Communicating with traffic navigation, navigation tools, or other pilots is enjoyable and easy with this headset. We love its Bluetooth capability and adjustable audio priorities. The integrated Bluetooth lets

you stream music to your headset and it is easy to set the audio priorities to shut off other audio when important communication is being received. In testing, we found the Bluetooth feature to work wonders. It eliminated wires and cords that we previously had to haul around. It is important to note that the Bluetooth feature is optional. There is a variant without Bluetooth for $100 dollars less.

How much does it cost?

As we’ve said before, there are two variants to this headset. One has Bluetooth and one does not. The Bluetooth variant comes in at around $1095.95, and the version without Bluetooth can be had for $995.95. We find this headset to be competitively priced for the amount of quality offered. For what is known as the best aviation headset, $1000 is worth spending. Most pilots use their headset for hours a day, so you can expect this investment to pay for itself. To get the most out of your money, go with the Bluetooth capable headset.

Relative to other aviation headsets, the Bose A20 headset is definitely on the higher end of the price range spectrum. You get what you pay for. This is the best of the best when it comes down to aviation headsets. For new pilots, or even students, entry-level headsets can be had for a couple hundred dollars.

Note: any given prices are subject to change at any time.

What we didn’t love

There is not much to say here, but there are a few things this headset could improve on. For starters, the headset is a bit thick. Depending on where you are going to be using it, this may not be an issue to you. However, for those who spend countless hours in very small cockpits, the headset can get bothersome.

Another thing to consider is the size. This is not a problem specific to the Bose A20 Aviation Headset only, but it is something to consider. This headset is designed for the average male head, and while it does offer some adjustable parts and pieces, petite women may not get a flawless fit.

Overall, the Bose A20 Aviation Headset is, as we’ve said, the best aviation headset on the market. While it does come with a few flaws, they are easy to overlook. Any pilot who spends long hours almost every day wearing an aviation headset deserves to treat themselves well with the best gear.

One thing we should mention: this is may not be the best entry-level aviation headset. New pilots are still learning what they enjoy in a headset or aren’t willing to spend so much on a piece of gear just yet.

One thing we do know for sure is that just about anyone would be more than satisfied with this amazing headset.
